Limousine operators, car hires strike cripple activities around MMA
Movement around the Murtala Muhammed Airport, MMA, Lagos, was yesterday grounded as the Limousine operators downed tool to protest their re-routing by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN over complaints by airport car hire operators.
This left passengers who use the airport route stranded as they had to resort to long trekking from various bus stops from Ikeja under bridge to hajj camp and international airport.
Nigerianfranknews.com gathered that the car hire operators had complained to FAAN that the limousine operators especially the ones that use of the Toyota Camry car always take away their passengers, rather than to concentrate on the allocated route of Airport to Ikeja axis.
As a result of the complaints, it was alleged that FAAN re-routed the limousine operators (Toyota Camry car) to Hajj camp from Ikeja while the Sienna users were re-routed to the international wing of the airport from their usual hajj camp at the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company, NAHCO, Plc.
There are no fewer than 500 limousine and car hires registered with FAAN at the airport, but, they all insisted that they would not comply with the re-routing as directed by FAAN.
It was gathered that the leadership of Airport Car Hire Association of Nigeria, ACHAN, had protested to FAAN, seeking the re-routing of the limousine operators (Toyota Camry) to hajj camp from international airport while the limousine operators were requested to move to in different, which was approved by the agency.
Meanwhile, attempts to get the general manager Corporate Communications of FAAN, to speak on the matter proved abortive as calls put to his phones were not responded to.
