2 Arik Air aircraft on wing collision at MMA
Two Arik aircraft, Boeing 737-800NG were yesterday afternoon involved in a wing-tip brush at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
A statement signed by Arik Air’s spokesman, Banji Ola explained that one of the aircraft with registration number; 5N-MJP was marshalled out of the ramp for a scheduled flight when its wing brushed that of another aircraft belonging to the same airline with registration number, 5N-MJQ parked on the ramp.
He said the safety of passengers was not jeopardized in any way.
“We have grounded the two aircraft and are looking into the incident”, Banji said.
A similar incident involving two aircraft belonging to First Nation Airways occurred at the same airport on July17, 2015 when a A319 taxiing into the terminal hit another parked A319 aircraft at the apron. The Emirates B777-400 was taxiing out for take-off when its wing tip collided with the Hak Air aircraft, which was parked at the apron of the airport’s General Aviation Terminal (GAT). No one was injured but the B737-400 sustained substantial damage.
Also, there was another collision of Emirates B777-400 and Hak Air B737-400 that occurred at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos on July 6, 2015.
