Prince Adeyeye Ogunwusi emerges new Ooni of Ife
Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi from the Giesi Ruling House has been unveiled by the Osun State Government as the new Ooni of Ife.
Prince Ogunwusi emerged Ooni after a keen contest by 36 members of the Giesi family which were prune down to 21 candidates and then 13 that were eventually screened by a committee set up by the ruling house.
At the end of the contest, the 40-year old real estate magnate emerged successfully as the new Ooni of Ife.
Other contenders include: Princes Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Soji Fadehean, Aderemi Adelowo, Adetunji Ogunwusi, Soji Ologbenla, Olugbenga Ologbenla, Kolajo Adegbinrin, Taiwo Ogunleye, Ademola Adebiyi, Adewale Muritala, Adegboyegba Adelowo, Adediran Kolajo, and Adegboyega Adedire.
An official statement signed by Alhaji Moshood Olalekan Adeoti, Secretary to the Osun State Government, said Governor Rauf Aregbesola has approved the appointment of Prince Ogunwusi to become the 51st Ooni of Ife.
The statement noted that: “This choice follows the completion of the due process by the Kingmakers and the communication of their decision to the government.
The new Ooni succeeds the late Ooni, Oba Okunade Sijuwade who passed on at a London clinic on July 28
The delay in the selection of the new Oni may not be unconnected with death of the second in command to the Ooni, Chief Folorunso Omisakin who was the Obalufe of Ife, including the process of selection and installation of the new monarch. The process suffered setback following a dispute among the ruling houses in the town over Ife Chieftaincy Declaration which led to a legal tussle at the Osun State High Court in Osogbo.
