‘Airport projects to be completed by 1st quarter of 2016’
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation, Hajia Binta Bello has disclosed that by the first quarter of next year all the ongoing airport projects will be completed and commissioned.
Speaking in Lagos, Hajia Bello said the country has a temporary challenge with ongoing construction works at the nation’s airports, adding that when all the projects are completed, all the airports will be in proper shape.
Commenting on the Privatisation of the airports for effective and efficient management, she stated that government cannot just wake up one morning and privatise the airport without looking at the pros and con of privatization.
“Privatisation is a big process on its own and government cannot just wake up one morning and privatise the airport without looking at the pros and con of privatization”, she said
Bello also advocated the cooperation and synergy of all organisations and stakeholders in the industry in order to achieve a “win-win situation” for the sector. The Permanent Secretary stated that in recognition of the need for a win-win situation in aviation, the ministry has embarked on regular stakeholder meetings to carry everybody along in policy decisions by the regulations, so as “to ensure that diverse interests are aggregated and equitably catered for.”
Earlier in an address, the Chairman of LAAC, Mr Chuks Iwelunmo commended the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), for the completion of ongoing projects like the ADS-C/CPDLC and the Kano Safe Tower. On the Treasury Single Account (TSA), Iwelunmo appealed to the federal government to create an exemption window for aviation agencies “to fix emergent developments concerning airports and other critical navigation infrastructure” because of the critical nature of their operations.
