German envoy advocates partnership among law enforcement agents
The German Consul General, Mr. Ingo Herbert has called for strategic partnership among law enforcement agents against criminal syndicates. The Consul made the call during his first official visit to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Mr. Herbert who was accompanied by a senior official of the consulate, Mr. Dominik Muller said that the visit was to strengthen ties with important partners.
According to the envoy, “strategic partnership is needed to checkmate the activities of criminal groups who are also forming alliances across the globe. This visit is part of efforts to meet with important partners since my resumption a month ago in Nigeria. Drug trafficking undermines societal development. It is important for us to collaborate because even criminal groups also seek collaborators across the globe. The German Government and the Federal Criminal Office is pleased to partner with Nigeria in the fight against drug trafficking and money laundering”.
Three kits of battery driven professional screwdriver sets and two coloured printers with eight ink cartridges were also presented to the Agency by the Consul General. The presentation is a follow-up to a recent training programme for NDLEA officers sponsored by the German Government. The training course was on Suppression of Drug Related Crime, Seizure and Evidence Handling in Drug Investigations as well as Photographic Documentation of Narcotics Evidence and Crime Scenes.
Chairman/chief executive of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade who received the Consul General appreciated the long standing working relationship between Nigeria and Germany in narcotic control. “The principle of forming alliances in the fight against narcotics has remained effective over the years. Our countries have made impressive impact in counter-narcotics campaign through sustainable partnership in training programmes, exchange of intelligence and joint operations. I also wish to express appreciation for the continuous technical support of the German Government particularly in the donation of sniffer dogs and vehicle to convey the dogs to operational areas” Giade stated.
The NDLEA boss assured the envoy of sustained cordial working relationship in the years ahead.
In her remarks, the Director General of the NDLEA, Mrs. Roli Bode-George thanked the Consul General for the visit and wished him a fruitful stay in Nigeria.
Also present at the meeting were very senior officers and departmental heads of the Agency.
