Terror attacks: Between Nigeria and France
By Lere Olayinka
On the Paris Terror attacks of yesterday, have you read any Press
Statement from anyone, blaming the President of France?
Instead, everyone is concerned about saving the country.
But here in Nigeria, when Dr Goodluck Jonathan was president, you blamed him for Boko Haram attacks and used it as electioneering campaign.
Now you are calling for prayers on the Paris Terror attacks instead of
also blaming the President of France, Francois Hollande the way you blamed Jonathan. KONTINU.
The lesson that we must learn from France is that terrorism is a
problem that we must all confront irrespective of our political party,
religion and tribe.
If what happened in Paris yesterday could happen, we should all know
that no one is safe in Nigeria with its porous borders and security
networks.
Afefe to ka aso ni yara, eni wo tie sorun ko ma safara (If breeze
could remove cloths from the room, those putting on their own should
be mindful).
We failed to see Boko Haram as our collective problem when Jonathan
was president.
Even our northern leaders who should have shown more concern and
commitment were making statements against the federal government
efforts against Boko Haram insurgents.
I remember one of them saying “any Soldier who killed a Fulani takes a
loan repayable one day no matter how long it takes.”
Another one also said “military offensive against Boko Haram was anti north.”
This time around, we must eschew politics and stop the blame game.
As for me, Boko Haram insurgency is a national problem that all
Nigerians must confront before it consumes us as a nation. It is not
President Buhari’s personal problem, it is our collective problem.
