The chairman Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on Aviation,‎ Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ‎has expressed concern over the poor state of facilities at the country’s airports despite the billions of naira sunk into airport remodelling and upgrade in recent years.
Speaking after inspection of facilities at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, Senator Kwankwaso said the facilities they saw at the airports are dead and decaying ‎which needs urgent attention from government.
According to him, “‎we have seen the progress of work at the various facilities and we also saw the equipment. We are happy on the one hand and also not happy on the other hand because a lot still has to be done in the country’s aviation industry. We have seen the facilities, equipment and we are going back to put heads together and see what we will recommend to the senate to see how we can move the industry forward. “‎
Speaking also, a member of the committee and the former minister of aviation, Senator Stella Oduah said after the inspection that  the committee will recommend to the government though the minister of state for aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, ways of shoring up revenue drive for the industry.
‎Oduah said, ” ours is to write our reports and make recommendations to the government and find out the lapses and gaps in the system.”
The committee which commenced its tour of airport facilities from Abuja Airport, continued at the Lagos Airport where it visited the ongoing terminal construction of the international terminal and the Total Radar Coverage of Nigeria, (TRACON) among others.
