Jubilation in Rivers as Wike wins at Supreme Court

Port Harcourt, the River State capital on Wednesday erupted into wild jubilation following the Supreme Court judgement that upheld the April 11 governorship election of Governor Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP against his main challenger, Dakuku Peterside of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
The 7 man Supreme Court panel led by Jusice Kudirat Kekere Ekun in a unanimous decision held that Governor Wike was validly elected as governor of Rivers State.
The apex court also upheld the election of the Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun.
The Court dismissed the application brought by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate, Gboyega Isiaka as lacking in merit.
The Supreme Court also upheld the election of Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state as the validly elected governor.
The Supreme Court dimissed the application brought by the Labour Party candidate, Chief Edward Nkwegu challenging the victory of Umahi.
In the Rivers judgement, Justice Kekere-Ekun in her lead judgement held that three separate appeals that were filed by Wike, PDP and INEC, were meritorious.
The Supreme court headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed promised to adduce reasons for the judgement on February 12, while that of Ebonyi will given on
February 5.
