MSSN Lagos begs Buhari not to leave Nigeria divided than he met it
The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit (MSSN Lagos) has appealed to President Muhammad Buhari to ensure that Nigerians become more united under his administration.
President of the MSSN Lagos, Mallam Saheed Ashafa, said this during a press conference on the state of the nation and a Qur’an Memorisation Competition holding on June 12, 2016 at the Gymnasium Hall, National Institute for Sports, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
While addressing journalists at Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Lagos, the Muslim students’ leader stated that President Buhari was performing better in key areas than former administrations.
Affirming that President Buhari’s integrity and honesty were not doubtful, Ashafa advised the President to consider a restructuring of his team.
He said, “Fighting corruption is commendable but will be more appreciated if it is complemented with infrastructural development. Nigerians are more interested in seeing a governance system that positively transforms their society within the shortest time interval. The ‘Change’ slogan should be coded in values of direction.
“Regardless of the structure and challenges faced by the country and the inherited liabilities in all forms, we appeal to President Muhammad Buhari not to leave Nigeria divided than he met it; not to let things get worsen under his administration. He must leave outstanding legacies and intervene in critical areas such as education and difficulty experienced in paying salaries by some state governors.”
Ashafa subsequently explained that the 14th Biennial Qur’an Memorisation Competition was being held in honour of the pioneer President of MSSN in Nigeria and a former Secretary General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Late Alhaji Lateef Adegbite.
“MSSN LSAU has pioneered the execution of this Project since 1999. We have provided the platform upon which a sizeable number of youths in the southwest have realized their potentials and are now HUFFAAZ (i.e. memorizers) of the Qur’an. We equally have produced youths who have represented the country in international competitions,” he added.
The Qur’an competition which is themed ‘The Divine Compendium for Governance’; is expected to witness the presence of prominent personalities.
Among those being expected are: chief host – deputy governor, Lagos State, Dr. Idiat Adebule; chairman – former Senator, Lagos West Senatorial District; Ganiyu Solomon; Royal Father of the day – Oba of Lagos, HRH Oba Rilwan Akiolu; mother of the day – former geputy Governor of Lagos State, Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu; Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III is the Spiritual Father of the day.
