Buhari needs total concentration to fight corruption, boost economy- Sen Omoworare
The legislator, representing Osun East Senatorial District, Senator Babajide Omoworare has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is doing everything possible to get things sorted out and done.
Senator Omoworare added that President Buhari needs 100 percent concentration and supports from all quarters to fight corruption, revive the sleeping economy, boost income generation through diversification from a mono-product economy to initiate sustainable programmes.
Senator Omoworare, who stated this in a brief parley with journalists at a political function in Ibadan over the weekend, added that he boldly subscribe that the law of the land must take its course faithfully, no matter whose ox is gored.
He pledged his unalloyed loyalty and unflinching supports to the total realisation of the manifesto of the All Progressive Congress (APC), which culminated in the emergence of President Buhari under the change mantra philosophy.
Omoworare disclosed that “the expectations of an average electorate in Nigeria is to see economic buoyancy, reduction in the rate of youth unemployment, an end to the scourge of insecurity and militancy, improved electricity supply, massive infrastructure development across the length and breadth of our country, which the present leadership is tackling headlong as contained in the 2016 budget with great assurances that budget implementation and execution will be legendary and monumental attaining a height of 75 per cent pass mark by May 2017.
“And in the spirit of progressiveness as a dutiful lawmaker, I am personally opposed to the unwarranted distraction and diversionary tactics as presently displayed between the legislature and executives deployed by reactionary elements in the national assembly.”
Speaking on the reshuffle at the upper chamber, which saw him moved as chairman from the Rules and Business committee to a non-existent but newly created legislative compliance committee, he said: “I have remained objective and sincere to every assignment and responsibility since my days, even as a state lawmaker, and I must say that this has not changed.”
Meanwhile, earlier report revealed that Senator Omoworare might probably have incurred the wrath of the Senate leadership over his stance against the amendment of certain sections of the EFCC, ICPC, and Code of Conduct Act as initiated by his colleagues.
When asked about his role as the chairman of rules and business committee, Senator Omoworare said: “I premise my conduct on the amendment on the political timing, prevailing circumstance and unpatriotic attitude of a selected few to bring this government to its knees and draw us back retrogressively. And if my sins are prejudiced on my allegiance to the prospectus of party supremacy or my inferred alliance to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, so be it. I dare say I remain unrepentant Tinubist, as my crave for selfless service to our people.
It was gathered that Senator Omoworare was practically against the orchestrated plots by the senate committee on judiciary where he is a member when they summoned the attorney general and the minister of justice, Malami Abubakar (SAN) to a public hearing where the Senate is challenging the effrontery of the chief law officer to institute a criminal case against the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and deputy President, Ike Ekweremadu, where he was quoted to have raised a salient observation that caused division at the hearing.
When asked about this, he said: “This session is an entire waste of our time, I am not bothered about the matter in court, the law should take its course.“I don’t want to join issues on the amendment of the rules of the Senate. I don’t know if the resolution of this hearing can authenticate anything. We should not be where we are. This is an entire waste of our time. That is the situation we have found ourselves.”
