Court remands 2 men over libelous Speech against late Mohbad’s wife

Justice Ibrahim A. Kala of a Lagos Federal High Court, has ordered the remand of two men, Saheed Jamiu Osama and Uyime Godwin Udoekwere, for allegedly making libelous statements against Mrs. Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, the wife of late Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba also known as Mohbad.

Justice Kala made the remand order of the two men, after they pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy, cyberstalking and character assassination made against them by the team of ‘Delta Attack’ of Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, Lagos, after they were arraigned on Friday.

The defendants, according to the prosecutor, Barrister Anthony Iyeye, conspired among themselves to commit the offences between July and 5, 2025.

Iyeye told the court that both Saheed, Uyime and others at large, through computer and other network platforms, sent false messages against late Mohbad’s Wife, Mrs. Omowunmi.

They were also alleged to have  indulged in menacing the character and reputation of the late musician’s wife, by carrying placards with the inscription; “Wunmi Killed Mohbad Period! E No Go Better For Wunmi”,.

Thealleged crimes according to the prosecutor, contravened 27 (1) (b)(2) and 24 (1) (a)(b)(2) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention etc) Act, 2015. 

The defendants had pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Following the defendants not guilty plea, the prosecutor asked the court for a trial date. He also prayed the court to remand the two men pending the determination of the charge.

However, the defendants’ counsel, Barrister Ademola Olabiyi who was represented by Barrister Rachael Mimido. J. Nyiew, orally apply for the defendants’ bail. 

Nyiew cited Section 32(3)(5) of the Administration of the Criminal Justice (ACJA) 2015. Adding that she was unable to file the defendants’ bail application, as the charge was on the defendants on the arraigned date.

Justice Kala while adjourning the matter to September 25, 2025, for trial, ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Ikoyi center of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS), pending the concept the charge. 

The judge, however, counseled the defendants’ counsel to approach the vacation judges upon filing the defendants’ bail application.

The Charge Against The defendants read: That you, Saheed Jamiu Osama ‘M’, Uyime Godwin Udoekwere ‘M’ and others at large, between 4th and 5th July 2025 at Ikotun Lagos, within Lagos Judicial Division of the Honourable Court, did conspired amongst yourselves to commit an offence to wit; cyberstalking and thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 27 (1) (b) (2) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention etc) Act, 2015. 

“That you, Saheed Jamiu Osama ‘M’, Uyime Godwin Udoekwere ‘M’ and others at large, between 4th and 5th July 2025 at Ikotun Lagos, within Lagos Judicial Division of the Honourable Court, did knowingly or intentionally send message by means of electronic devices through computer and other network platform against Mrs. Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba Knowing them to be false and thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 24 (1) (a) (b) (2) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention etc) Act, 2015. 

“That you, Saheed Jamiu Osama ‘M’, Uyime Godwin Udoekwere ‘M’ and others at large, between 4th and 5th July 2025 at Ikotun Lagos, within Lagos Judicial Division of the Honourable Court, did intentionally indulge in menacing the character and reputation of Mrs. Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba by carrying play cards with inscription saying “WUNMI KILLED MOHBAD PERIOD! E NO GO BETTER FOR WUNMI an accusation you known to be false and thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 24 (1) (a) (b) (2) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention etc) Act, 2015.”
