Accra Weizo 2019: Nigeria forges close cultural, tourism relationship with Ghana

Nigeria is forging a close cultural and tourism relationship with Ghana as the director general of the National Council for Art and Culture, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe has launched the Nigeria – Ghana Friendship Club at the recently concluded Accra Weizo in Ghana.
Launching the Club in Accra, Runsewe stated that Nigeria and Ghana have a long standing diplomatic relationship dating back to several decades.
He said the relationship between the two countries has not only been robust but mutually rewarding also, adding that the two countries have maintained strategic political, cultural, commercial and educational ties for a very long time.
The NCAC boss explained that Nigeria and Ghana have been in the forefront of campaigning for the unity, peace, mutual understanding and cooperation among countries in West African sub region in particular and the continent of Africa as a whole.
He said Nigeria and Ghana Friendship Club will bring together Nigerian -Ghanaian citizens of like minds to fraternise and chart a course for the consolidation of the already existing cordial relationship between the two countries.
In his word:”As brothers and neighbour, there is a lot Nigeria and Ghana stand to gain by evolving informal platforms of collaboration and strengthening sub regional solidarity. Citizens of the two countries must look at themselves as truly brothers who must work hand in hand to develop themselves and chart a good course for West Africa.
He noted that the key to the development of African economy lies in the culture, tourism and travel sector.
Runsewe commended the publisher of African Travel Quarterly Magazine(ATQ), Mr Ikechi Uko on the successful hosting of the 5th Accra weizo, including his dynamic and visionary team that over the year have spearheaded the promotion of culture, tourism and travel business in West Africa through platforms like Akwaaba Expo, Accra Weizo and African Travel Quarterly.
The NCAC boss who emerged culture and tourism man of the year for West Africa at the expo expressed appreciation to the board of ATQ and the organisers of Balofon Award for finding him worthy and deserving of the award.
He said: “I am deeply overwhelmed by the honour which is a recognition of my humble contribution to the development of the culture, tourism and travel business in Nigeria in particular and African region and the world at large. To whom much is given, much is also expected. I therefore assure the management and board of ATQ that this award will further propel me to even higher level of commitment in our collective determination towards repositioning the sector as a key player in our sub regional and regional economy. As I have always emphasised, the key to the development of African economy lies in the culture, tourism and travel sector. As the president of the World Craft Council (African region) it is my determination to mobilise and sensitise key players in the sector in Africa towards optimising the vast potential in this sector.”
Runsewe concluded that: “We have been here in Ghana, we have visited Botswana, Burkina Faso, South Africa other countries, propagating the gospel of culture, tourism and travel industry as a key sector for job creation, employment generation and driver of the GDP of African nations. The advocacy campaign is continuing”.
