AIB- N to prioritise staff welfare, training, promotion
The Commissioner of Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB-Nigeria, Mr Akin Olateru has promised to prioritise the issue of staff welfare, training, promotion and equipping staff with right tools and things that will make them happy.
Mr Olateru noted that all these will make AIB an enviable place to work.
The AIB boss who disclosed this during an interview with Aviation correspondent in Lagos stated that the Bureau will continue to deliver on its mandate of investigating serious incident and accident to the highest professional level.
“For instance, going to the accident site, the right operational vehicle and the whole things that will give them satisfaction,” he said.
He observed that the best that can be done is to release accident reports in good time, while the quality of the report should be topnotch communicated in a way the reader can understand.
On what the management of AIB has done to consult other stakeholders outside aviation in its multi-modal accident investigation drive, Olateru explained that the NSIB bill was an executive bill sponsored by the executive and not a private bill.
He said the bill was debated at the Federal Executive Council and was approved by Mr. President before it was sent to the National Assembly.
On the public hearing in the National Assembly, Olateru stated that he will re-engage the consultation with major stakeholders, adding that the consultation side is about 96 per cent done.
He said it is just to finish up with it within the next two weeks and passed it to the National Assembly.
Olateru said the government has really done well from the way they have managed the pandemic so far considering the rate of infection and death.
He stated that: “I can tell you that we have done well than most of the richest countries, even though we are not the richest, but we have done excellently well. So in terms of assessment, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, I think we are still doing very well; we just need to keep up with the standard and making flight enjoyable for passengers.
Then we also need to make our customers relations better and I think we will get there with that”.
