Aviation unions warn NAMA against payment of incomplete salary

The Nigeria’s aviation unions have warned the management of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) against the planned payment of incomplete salary for the month of June.

The unions under the aegis of the National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals, ANAP and the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees, AUPCTRE warned that incomplete payment of salary is a recipe for avoidable crisis.

The bodies in a letter signed by secretary of NUATE, comrade Aba Ocheme, comrade Frances Akinjole,
deputy general secretary ATSSSAN, comrade Abdul Rasaq Saidu, general secretary ANAP and comrade Musa Ukpo Ag. General secretary AUPCTRE and addressed to the managing director of NAMA, Captain Fola Akinkuotu, titled: incomplete staff salary, a recipe for aviodable crisis noted that If this development is true, that it is the unions’ opinion that the intended action would amount to gross embarrassment to the aviation industry, the federal government of Nigeria and the entire people of Nigeria.

The unions advised against the attempt,
stressing that the consequences may be more damaging than what might have been envisaged.

“In light of the contemplated Management intention against our members’ salaries, we hereby, strongly demand that full salaries and other entitlements as due to our members be paid on or before the 29th day of June 2020. Failure of this demand to be met may attract any action we deem necessary to protect the dignity of labour of our members without further warning from our Unions,” the unions concluded in the letter.
