Court jails Malian 2 years for dealing in Tramadol

A Federal High Court, Lagos, has convicted and sentenced a Mali citizen, Alasan Diamoutene, to two years imprisonment, for unlawful dealing in Tramadol.

Diamoutene, a resident of Yirimadio, Bamako, Mali, was given the jail term by Justice N. I. Oweibo, after pleaded guilty to a count charge on unlawful dealing in 630 tablets of Tramadol and 230 tablets of Diazpharm, a psychotropic substance, made against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The convict according to the NDLEA prosecutor, Aliyu Abubakar, was arrested on February 7, at Seme-Badagry border, while trying to cross to Nigeria with the said banned drug.

Aliyu had informed the court that the offence committed by the convict was contrary to and punishable under section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act Cap. N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The charge against the convict reads: “that you Alasan Diamoutene, male, adult, Malian, of Yirimadio Mali Bamako or about the 7th day of February, 2019, at Search Ramp area of Seme Border within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, without lawful authority dealt in 630 tablets of Tramadol and 230 tablets of Diazpharm a psychotropic substance by which act you committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 11c of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004”.

In the same vain, a Nigerian, Rasaki Jimoh, of Alaworo Zone 4, Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Ilepo Bus stop, Badagry, Lagos, has also been convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment for dealing in 1 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, popularly called marijuana.

He was convicted by Justice N. I. Oweibo, after he pleaded not guilty to a count charge of unlawful dealing in the banned weed.

He was arraigned before the court by the NDLEA.

During his arraignment, Mr. Aliyu Abubakar, counsel to NDLEA informed the court that he was arrested on January 24, around his house, where he was hawking the banned weed.

Aliyu had told the court that the offence committed by the convict contravened section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act Cap. N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
