Justice Musa Kakaki of a Federal High Court, Lagos, has remanded an alleged transborder drug smuggler, Adediran Aliu Oluwaseun, who was accused of smuggling 25 kilograms of cocaine from Ghana to the country.
Justice Kakaki remanded the 45 years old alleged drug trafficker, after he pleaded not guilty to the two counts charge made against him by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), today.
NDLEA through its prosecutor, Barrister Abdullahi Buhari, informed the court that the defendant was arrested with the drug on February 10, 2026, at Oloko, Badagry Area, Lagos.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendant conspired with one Biggy, now at large, to commit the alleged illegal acts.
The specifically told the court that defendant used a green Toyota Highlander with Registration Number; MUS 275 GW, to smuggled the prohibited drug from Ghana to Nigeria.
He told the court that the alleged illegal acts of the defendant, are contrary to Sections 14(a) and 11 (a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Based on his not guilty plea, the prosecutor prayed the court to remand him pending trial.
He also moved the motion for interim forfeiture of the Toyota Highlander used as instrumentality for the alleged crime.
But the lawyer to the defendant, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms. Adding that his client was just a driver.
The submission which was vehemently opposed by the prosecutor.
In his ruling, Justice Kakaki refused the bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded in the facility of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS), while ordered the accelerated hearing of the case.
The judge thereafter adjourned the matter to June 22, 23 and 24, for the defendant’s trial. While also ordered interim forfeiture of the vehicle used to convey the drug.
The charge marked FHC/L/214c/226, against the defendant read: “that you ADEDIRAN ALIU OLUWASEUN “M” 45 years old, and one Biggy now at Large, on or about the 10th day of February 2026, Lagos, Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, without lawful authority conspire amongst yourselves to import 25 kilograms of Cocaine, a Narcotic. Drug from Accra Ghana to Nigeria via a green Toyota Highlander with Registration Number; MUS 275 GW and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 14 (a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
“That you ADEDIRAN ALIU OLUWASEUN “M“45 years old, on or about the 10th day of
February 2026, at Oloko, Badagry Area, Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, without lawful author: imported 25 kilograms of Cocaine, a Narcotic Drug from Accra Ghana to Nigeria using a green Toyota Highlander with Registration Number; MUS 275 GW and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 11 (a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.”
