Court sentences Marijuana Peddler to three months community service

Justice Deinde Dipeolu of an Federal High Court, Lagos, has convicted and sentenced a marijuana seller, Segun Olorunjeda, to three months community service.

The convicted marijuana seller was ordered to perform the community service at the office of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), sequel to his plea of guilty to a count charge made against him by the anti-narcotics agency.

The Convict was arraigned before the court last Friday.

During his arraignment, the prosecutor, Mr. Lambert Nor, told the court that he was arrested with the 500 grams of the prohibited substance on November 11, 2024, at freedom way, lekki, Lagos.

The prosecutor told the court that the illegal act on the convict contravened section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act Cap N30, 2004.

Following the convict’s plea to the charge, his lawyer, Kolawole Bolanle in her allucutor, after stating several mitigating factors, which she said is in favour of her client, pleaded with the court to give him non-custodian sentence.

Justice Dipeolu after listening to the lawyer’s submissions and confirmed from the prosecutor the the convict was a first time offender who did not have any previous record of conviction, sentenced him to three months community service.

The judge ordered the convict to perform the community service at the agency’s office, adding that the officers of the agency should supervise the convict while performing the community service.
