It was excitement galore as Chef Nneka Francisca Okoye, (Chef Nikky) emerged as the winner of the 2023 Akwaaba African Travel Market Jollof Rice War.
Chef Niyi emerged the first runner up, Chef Onyinye became the second runner up. While Chef Temitope and Chef Jide became 3rd runners up.
Gino Tomato Paste added colour, flavour and excitement to this year’s Jollof Rice War as the best of Nigerian chefs slugged it out in the kitchen at the recently concluded Akwaaba African Travel Market in Lagos.
The Jollof Rice War which has become one of the major attraction of the Akwaaba African Travel Market added more flavour to the event this year as people thronged the Eko Hotel Expo centre, the venue of the event to have a taste of delicious Jollof Rice prepared by renowned Nigerian chefs.
This year contest which was supported by Gino Tomato paste lived up to its billing as the contestants put in their best to emerge as winners.
It was a Nigerian contest as no foreign chef participated in the contest.
With the venue oozing out with wonderful aroma of delicious Jollof Rice, guests and other participants waited patiently to have a taste of the food which was worth all the wait.
Judges both from outside the country, Journalists and other notable tourism personalities took out time to grade the chefs and score them accordingly.
With the Jollof Rice war which was popularised by the organiser of Akwaaba African Travel Market, Mr. Ikechi Uko, the rivalry has keep increasing and the non stop debate on which country cooks the best Jollof rice.
Ghana over the year has promoted their Jollof Rice to be the best in West Africa, but Nigeria has always emerge winners in the contest.
Today, Jollof Rice which originated from Senegal is commonly regarded as the most acceptable meal in West Africa with frequent contests among the chefs from different countries to ascertain which nation cooks the best.
