The President Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria, FTAN, Mr. Nkereuwem Onung has lauded the Director General of National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, NIHOTOUR, Alhaji Nura Sani Kangiwa, for promoting the best of Nigerian gastronomy delights.
In his opening remarks at the just concluded Gastronomy Festival held at the International Conference Centre Abuja, Onung commended Kangiwa for keeping faith with the industry and organizing the 3rd edition of the Festival.
He said the Festival serves as a testament to Nigeria’s rich culinary heritage, vibrant culture and incredible potential that lies within the nation’s gastronomy.
FTAN President stated that the Festival also celebrates our food and drinks featuring local and regional cuisines as well as international dishes.
Onung noted that Nigeria, with its diverse ethnic group and vibrant food tradition, is a treasure-trove of culinary delights.
He said “from the savory flavours of jollof rice and suya to the aromatic spices of egusi soup and pounded yam, our gastronomy reflects the richness and diversity of our people. This festival is a celebration of the tastes, aroma and textures that make Nigeria cuisine truly exceptional”.
FTAN President pointed out that the nation must recognize the immense opportunity that lies in promoting Nigeria as gastronomy destination which is the theme of this year’s festival.
Onung noted that Nigeria culinary traditions have the power to entice travelers from far and wide offering them a unique and immersive experiences that goes beyond just a meal.
According to him: “Through our food, we can tell stories, preserve our culture heritage and foster greater understanding and appreciation for our country.
Moreover, Gastronomy festival provides a platform for our talented chefs and culinary enterprise to showcase their skills and creativity. It is a testament to their hard work and dedication that our culinary landscape continues to evolve and capture the attention of the world”.
FTAN President further stated that the Festival not only celebrate creativity, but also provides a springboard for further innovation and collaboration.
He emphasized that beyond gastronomy delights, the Festival also brings economic benefits to our communities.
He said by promoting culinary tourism, the nation can create sustainable livelihoods for small scale producers, farmers, artisan and local businesses.
