House of Reps advocates use of scanning machines at entry points

As part of measures to check the activities of the Boko Haram at the federal capital territory and other states, the House of Representatives has called for the use of scanning machines at all entry points into Abuja and other major cities in the country.
According to the lawmakers, this step would help security officials in the detection of improvised explosive devices that are being used by Boko Haram insurgents.

The lawmakers in a motion brought before them on the recent Abuja bomb attacks after over a year, urged the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff to urgently deploy bomb detectors with the capacity for long range coded aperture imaging to the military checkpoints on major routes into Abuja and major cities in the country.

They lawmakers said this development calls for more proactive steps by security officials to protect the citizens.

The House also considered a motion seeking a resolution to the recurring clashes between farmers and herdsmen in different parts of the country.
They expressed their support for the establishment of settlements for herdsmen as a way of addressing frequent clashes between farmers and cattle rearers.
The House also urged the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to establish settlements for the herdsmen and their cattle, equipped with modern facilities like residential accommodation and to also ensure registration of the herdsmen.

The ministry was also advised to ensure the immediate utilization of the existing grazing reserves and create new ones where they are inadequate.
