Investment in newer equipment key to our revenue of N7.38b growth in Q3 -NAHCo Aviance GMD

The group managing director of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCo) Aviance PLC, Mrs. Tokunbo Fagbemi has stated that the handling company was able to rake in a gross revenue of N7.38 billion in nine months because it invested in newer ground handling equipment.

Fagbemi who stated this while speaking at the Gateway Forum organised by the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) at Engr. Saleh Dunoma Press Centre, Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos, noted that apart from following strictly the equipment manufacturer’s instruction, the ground handling company introduced efficiency into its processes.

She stated that the company was able to achieved the revenue feat because of improvement in its processes and focused marketing strategies.

Fagbemi said the company has spent N2 billion on equipment between January and now on its Export Processing Centre.

According to her, the essence of investing on equipment is to support airlines.

NAHCO GMD said the company is also expecting more ground handling equipment.

Fagbemi disclosed that the company handles 63 per cent of the airline in the sector.

On the training of NAHCo staff to avoid airside incident, she said the company has an in-house audit, and pep talks with the staff regularly.

Fagbemi said: “We have what we call ‘Pep Talk’ daily, weekly, monthly and yearly. If you are not trained on any particular equipment, you are not allowed to operate any equipment.”

In the area of drug trafficking where some ground handling staff collude with drug traffickers to plant drugs on the luggage of passengers, the GMD said the company ensure that the staff follow Standard Operating Procedure in handling passengers including collaboration with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN and other agencies at the airport to ensure such things do not happen.
