The League of Nigerian Columnists (LNC) has mourned deeply the loss of Yakubu Mohammed, a venerable figure who served with distinction as Vice President of the League, a revered administrator, and a former Pro-Chancellor.
In a statement signed by Prof. Anthony Kila, Secretary General of League of Nigerian Columnists (LNC) said Yakubu Mohammed stood as a towering presence in Nigeria’s intellectual and public spheres, whose leadership was marked by wisdom, steadfastness, and profound institutional knowledge.
According to Prof. Kila his contributions significantly advanced the growth, credibility, and principled stance of the LNC in public discourse.
He added that beyond mere titles, his role was that of a guiding mentor, trusted counselor, and a reliable pillar of support within the organization, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to work with him.
He said beyond the League, Yakubu Mohammed was held in high regard as an accomplished and principled administrator and former university Pro-Chancellor. In these roles, he exemplified unwavering integrity, discipline, and a steadfast belief in institutions’ transformative power to shape a better society. As a columnist and writer, he exhibited remarkable clarity of thought, moral seriousness, and an enduring dedication to reasoned debate and national development. His eloquent writings consistently challenged complacency, elevated public discourse, and contributed meaningfully to Nigeria’s democratic conversation, inspiring progress and reflection across the nation.
Kila noted that the death of Yakubu Mohammed marks a profound loss, impacting not only the League of Nigerian Columnists but also the wider community of journalists, writers, scholars, administrators, and public intellectuals across Nigeria.
