A 24 year-old man, Patrick Amadi, was on Friday November 3, sentenced to 24 months imprisonment for hidden marijuana in his sandal and gave same to his brother, who is serving a jail term at Kirikiri prisons, Lagos.
The convict was handed over the jail term by Justice Ayotunde Faji, of a Federal High Court, Lagos, after he pleaded guilty to a count charge of unlawful dealing in narcotic, levelled against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The NDLEA prosecutor, Mr. Jerry Aernan, told the court that the convict was arrested on June 18, 2017, at Kirikiri Maximum Prisons, with 200 grammes of Cannabis Sativa, also known as marijuana.
Aernan told the court that the prisons’ official who arrested the convict, said he hid the said banned weed in a pair od sandal which he wore when he visited his brother who is serving a jail-term at the facility.
He said the offence committed by the convict, is contrary to and punishable under section 11(c) of NDLEA Act Cap. N30, laws of the federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The convict, however pleaded with the court to temper with mercy in sentencing.
He told the court that he had become remorse since he was arrested, and promised not to engage in crime again.
However, Justice Faji, in his judgment sentenced the convict to 24 months imprisonment.
The judge admonished the convict to use his jail period to turn a new leaf, and not to go back to crime.
In th same vain, a 29 year-old butcher, Azeez Akinrinmade, has also been convicted and sentenced to 24 months imprisonment, by Justice Ayotunde Faji, of a Federal High Court, Lagos, for Unlawful dealing in 700 kilogrammes of marijuana
Azeez was blessed with the jail term on Friday, after he was arraigned before the court by National Drug Law Agency (NDLEA).
The NDLEA prosecutor, Mr. Jerry Aernan, informed the court that the convict, who sell meat at Odo-eran, Itire, Lagos, was arrested with the marijuana, while selling it to his clients.
Aernan told court that the offence committed by the butcher is contrary to and punishable under section 11(c) of NDLEA Act Cap. N30, laws of the federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Without wasting the time of the court, the butcher pleadeddl guilty to the charge.
Consequently, Justice Faji, convicted and sentenced him to 24 months imprisonment.
