NCPC holds orientation for 2018 Federal Medical Team

The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) has conducted an orientation exercise for the 2018 main Christian Pilgrimage Federal Medical Team and Federal Medical Committee.
The orientation which took place recently at the Living Faith Church, Goshen City, Keffi, Nassarawa, had a total of 220 medical personnels selected across the 36 states through a written examinations conducted by the Joint Admission and Martriculation Exam (JAMB).
This orientation according to the executive secretary of NCPC, Rev Uja Tor Uja, became necessary as the need to make sure that intending pilgrims in the course of pilgrimage to the Holy Sites of Israel, Greece and Rome go and return in good health.
“The goal of this orientation and training is to ensure that the medical personnels are adequately prepared on what they should expect, what they should do and how they should work with other service providers to ensure that pilgrims get the best of medical services while on Pilgrimage”, he said.
“In the few years that we have analysed and monitored pilgrimage, we have identified key areas of greatest need of which health is one and have channeled our energy and time to make drugs and some basic medical testing equipment available to insure the health of our pilgrims while on pilgrimage outside this country ” he added.
The NCPC boss further stated that the Commission in a bid to further insure the health of pilgrims on Pilgrimage and maintain pilgrims zero mortality rate recorded in the past few years, has secured a medical insurance agreement and cover with all the Ground Handlers to make sure that any health challenge that goes beyound what can be managed elementarily by the medical personnels batched with the pilgrims are managed by some hospitals in Israeli.
He intimated that the Commission has been holding strategic meetings with all stakeholders that are involved in Pilgrimage Operations to make sure that the 2018 Main Pilgrimage exercise slated to kick off on the 24th of November 2018 and run through to the first week of January 2019, is hitch free and rewarding.
He explained that the Commission is trying its best to make the cost of Pilgrimage affordable.
According to him, “NCPC is not making profit out of Pilgrimage. 680,000 thousand is the cost of a pilgrim to Jerusalem, Israel and back. It covers to and fro airfares, visa processing, all forms of insurance, tour of Holy Sites, hotels accommodation and feeding. A second category is for those who want to go to Rome in addition and it goes for 870,000 thousand”.
He appreciated the federal medical team and Committee for their commitment in service to the nation and humanity, and charged them not to forget that Pilgrimage is a spiritual journey as they discharge their medical duties.
Speaking also, the chairman of the federal medical committee, Dr David Atuwo thanked the NCPC for organising the three days orientation and also for their transparency approach in the selection of the 2018 main Pilgrimage Federal Medical Team across the 36 states of the country.
He commended the selected medical professionals for ability to to distinguish themselves among the thousands who sat for the examination conducted by JAMB.
He assured the Commission, intending pilgrims and Nigerians that the Team will do all that is required to ensure the continuity of the previously recorded Zero Mortality of pilgrims on Pilgrimage.
His words : “Their professionalism is not in doubt but these orientation is to prepare them to know all the possible challenges they will and may be facing and how to tackle them. These training is to adequately prepare them to know how to work in harmony with other Service Providers to manage pilgrims because, 80percent of Pilgrimage is spirituality”.
