Romarox to give away brand new car to winner of 2019 Tourism Photo competition

The organisers of Romarox Tourism Photo Competition (RTPC) are set to give away a brand new car as star prize for the winner of the 2019 contest.

This was disclosed in Lagos on Tuesday by the organisers of the competition while unveiling its schedule for the 2019 contest.

Speaking during the unveiling, the managing director of Romarox Resources Limited and winner of Miss Nigeria Beauty Pageant in 1984/85 and Nigeria’s representative at the Miss World Beauty Pageant in London 1985, Hon. Rosemary Okeke noted that the competition seeks to ensure that members of the Nigerian public appreciate their own immediate environment.

Hon. Okeke explained the Sub Urban Heritage Initiative (SUHI) launched the Romarox Tourism Photo Competition on April 26th, 2012 in Abuja with a view to encourage domestic tourism and to ensure patronage of local tourist sites by Nigerians and was endorsed by the then minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, chief Edem Duke.

Okeke stated that the project has embodied in its goals the noble intention of spreading the message of peace, hope, love and the strength that is characteristic of the Nigerian people.

She emphasised that the project also prides itself with passing values of our heritage of love to the underprivileged people through the skill empowerment projects of the Sub-Urban Heritage Initiative geared towards their socio-economic growth and development.

“It is a medium for Nigerians to explore potential of their immediate environment hence making it a prospect that has immense economic viability which entails amongst many, Job creation, promote backward integration to the sub-urban than the urban.

Participants are free to participate by uploading on the website, original pictures of tourist attraction sites in their immediate environments in any and every category of the competition which are: Special scenery, natural wonders, legendary materials/iconic human, ecosystem festivals, history, monuments, developed tourist sites.
“The competition is a positive idea that promises mouthwatering prizes . The general public and all who mean well for the growth and development of domestic tourism in Nigeria therefore are enjoined to submit entries for the competition on the website which has being open for registration since March 2nd, 2019 and is slated to end on October 16th, 2019,” she said.

Romarox boss observed that although the government at national and state levels have done well in trying to make tourism a more thriving market in Nigeria, a lot still needs to be done in certain cardinal areas that have far reaching effects on the patronage of local tourist sites by Nigerians themselves.

Okeke enjoined all Nigerians as a way of contributing to the growth of this sector to identify and discover unique and profitable tourist opportunities in their various locales.

She also called for the support of Nigerians towards the growth and development of domestic tourism in in the country.

Nollywood actors and at the event

Introducing the photo competition, Project co-coordinator, Elder Emeka Anokwuru, a Journalist stated that the programme is aimed at encouraging Nigerians to visit any site of their choice and take fantastic pictures and upload on the company’s portal for the contest.

Anokwuru said the star prize which is a brand new car will given to the over all winner, while other contestants in different categories will also go home with other consolation prizes.

The categories include: special sceneries, natural wonders, legendary materials/ iconic humans, eco system festivals, history, monument and developed tourist sites.

He stated that the registration period started March 2nd and ends October 16 while the voting period starts October 17 and end November 17.

RTPC strives to engage the Nigerian population to appreciate and connect with her environment, in an effort to elicit domestic and international interests as it pertains to tourism in Nigeria.

The event attracted notable actors and actresses from the Nigerian movies industry, Nollywood, upcoming musicians, among others who came in their numbers to support the organisers.

The high point of the event was the cutting of the cake to herald the commencement of the 2019 edition of the project.
