The Institute of Tourism Professionals (ITP) has recognised the director general of the National Council of Arts and Culture, NCAC, Otunba Segun Runsewe with an award following his highly impressive stint at the tourism sector.
The award of fellowship was presented to Runsewe at the headquarters of the NCAC in Abuja.
Presenting the plaque and certificate to Otunba Runsewe, the President of the Institute and Chairman of Governing Council, Chief Abiodun Odusanwo lauded the landmark achievements of Runsewe while he was DG of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation.
Chief Odusanwo said the Institute of Tourism Professionals needed a household name like Runsewe who has contributed immensely to tourism development and more so, to give credibility and integrity to its activities as it strives towards sustainable development of the sector by way of better regulation amongst stakeholders.
Speaking on the agenda of the ITP, the president solicited the support and input of the NCAC boss in three key areas namely; a national tourism transport summit slated for March, 2018, a 20-year tourism development programme by the United Nations with 2017 being the year of commencement and the need for a sustained working relationship between the Institute and NCAC.
Responding, Otunba Runsewe said the group came at the right time noting that their vision was in sync with his objectives as DG, NCAC which according to him was to make culture Nigeria’s biggest revenue earner thereby taking over from oil.
Lamenting the lack of regulation in the industry, Runsewe opined that the professionals must first enumerate and register all genuine stakeholders following its right to grant qualification which according to him will translate to the improvement of standards within the industry.
He stressed that culture and tourism remain inseparable as the former is a viable component upon which the latter thrives and given his wealth of experience, promised to render full support to the activities of the ITP going forward.
