.. Seeks solutions to Nigeria’s economic challenges

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit (MSSN Lagos) has expressed concern over the current economic challenges facing Nigeria.

The Amir of the society, Saheed Ashafa, expressed the concern in a statement ahead of the group’s annual MSS Week programme expected to hold between Friday, May 20 and Sunday, May 29.

Ashafa advised that to solve Nigeria’s economic crisis, all hands must be on deck and be engaged in productive activities.

This, he said, informed the theme for this year’s MSS Week, ‘The Magnate’.

The week long event ‎holding across all local governments in Lagos State will feature are health talks, public lecture, entreprenuerial training, courtesy visit, picnic and community service among others.

The Muslim students’ leader urged President Muhammadu Buhari to unveil his economic policies to enable Nigerians understand the direction of his government.

Ashafa said, “We are not unaware of the current economic crisis in the country and we are really affected and worried about it. The situation requires a collaborative effort and pragmatic approach from both citizens and government. Government should decisively pick its policies and stop putting  Nigerian masses at risk through its frequent trial and error economic policies.

“It pains to say that the government currently has no economic direction. Government should realise with all sense of responsibility that Nigerians are truly hungry, jobless and frustrated. As a society, we feel that one of the proactive methods to reduce the pains experienced by Nigerians is by promoting entrepreneurship. This greatly informed our theme for this year’s MSS Week, ‘The Magnate’.

“With the theme, we will be sensitising people on the need to be self employed by creating their businesses. This is because those who suffer inconsistent policies most are people who are not in control of their own income. Nigerians must develop the attribute of a magnate and be ready to succeed in tough periods like this.”

Ashafa also appealed to the Nigerian populace, especially youths, not to be demoralised with the current economic challenges.

“Our week is basically targeted at youths and that is because they are the future of this country. We cannot afford to let them go astray, most importantly in this challenging period. We need to enlighten them on the need to shun crime by being more hadworking and focused,” he added.

He subsequently highlighted that the Society’s Youth Conference usually held on children’s Day and Sister’s Seminar would feature during the week.
