Sirika attains FRAeS, M.Sc in Air Transport Management
Nigeria’s Aviation minister, Senator Hadi Sirika has attained the Fellow Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS) recognition, which is the highest award from the Royal Aeronautical Society of the United Kingdom.
Also after the submission of his citation on ‘The development of Airline traffic in Nigeria and the relevance of Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM)’, Sirika has obtained Masters of Science in Air Transport Management (M.Sc) from the City, University of London,
Late March 2021, Sirika defended his thesis as he shared that: “Just defended my M.Sc Air Transport Management thesis at City, University of London. The title of the theory is: “The development of Airline traffic in Nigeria and the relevance of Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).”
Sirika wrote in the abstract of the theory that: “For a very long time Nigeria has its problems developing its own Aviation Industry. Since the demise of Nigerian Airways, the over 200 Million people of Nigeria depend on foreign (almost all of which are non-African) airlines to deliver the airline service the country needs. With the SAATM initiative of an open sky aviation and the effects on GDP, Nigeria’s ambition should be to take the lead and participate in Pan-African aviation development through an efficient and profitable airline industry for the country and Africa.
The paper analyses the current constraints and the future opportunities of Nigeria base airline operation, locally and globally.”
“Fellowship (FRAeS) is the highest grade attainable and is only bestowed upon those in the profession of aeronautics or aerospace,” Royal Aeronautical Society.
“Fellows must meet the requirements for Member and can also demonstrate that they meet one or more of the following criteria: Have made outstanding contributions in the profession of aeronautics; Attained a position of high responsibility in the profession of aeronautics and have had long experience of high quality in the profession of aeronautics.”
Engr. Akin Olateru, the commissioner and the chief executive officer of the Accident Investigation Bureau Nigeria (AIB-N) in his congratulatory message said: “I offer my sincere congratulations to you on this occasion of your double celebration of great success and a very well-deserved award.”

Your achievement is truly commendable, coming in tandem with you obtaining a Masters in Air Transport Management from the City, University of London.”
Sirika as the current minister in charge of aviation is putting forward with appreciable progress on Aviation Road Map (ARP) on Establishment of a National Carrier; Development of Agro-Allied /Cargo Terminals; Establishment of Maintenance, Repairs and Overhaul (MRO) Centre; Establishment of an Aviation Leasing Company (ALC); Development of Aerotropolis (Airport Cities) and establishment of an Aerospace University.
More on ARP are: Upgrade of NCAT into an ICAO Regional Training Centre of Excellence.; Designation of Four (4); International Airports as Special Economic Zones; Introduction of Policies on Remotely Piloted Aircraft.; Adherence to Employment Policies on the Enforcement of Expatriate Quota and Upgrade of AIB to a Multi -modal Accident Investigation Agency – National Transport Accident Investigation Board (NTAIB).
In addition to his new rising profile as Minister of Aviation, FRAeS and M.Sc In Air Transport Management), Senator Sirika was was an Airplane Pilot, a Helicopter Pilot and an aircraft Engineer. He is a prolific entrepreneur, he has established a couple of successful construction and consulting companies in aviation, civil, water, environment, and education while served also on the board of few other businesses.
He was elected Member of the House of Representatives representing Dutsi – Mashi Federal Constituency in April 2003 under the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). He served under the House Committees of Police, Water Resources, Marine Transport, Works as well as House Committee on Aviation where he served as Deputy Chairman. He was at the fore front of the struggle against tenure elongation of the then President Olusegun Obasanjo (The Infamous third term agenda).
Also, he was elected a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing Katsina North Senatorial District in April 2011 on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). He served in various capacities under several committees of the red chamber, including committees on Aviation, Police, Water Resources, Transport and Millennium Development Goals where he was the Vice Chairman. He has sponsored four bills in the seventh Senate and debated several motions.
